Women's Caucus

History and Purpose

The Women's Caucus grew out of efforts in the mid-seventies to ensure equitable representation of women and women's concerns within ASECS. In its more than twenty year history it has served as a forum for discussing topics related to women in the field of 18th-century studies, and for evaluating the status of women in the profession. The Women's Caucus has been particularly concerned to promote intellectual solidarity regardless of critical approach or disciplinary affiliation, and to encourage women who are beginning their careers in 18th-century studies.

There is no formal process for joining the women's caucus. To join, simply attend the caucus luncheon at the annual ASECS meeting and give your names and addresses to the caucus chairs so that you may be added to the caucus list. Business meetings at the annual convention are open, and all members are eligible to run for office and for committees. Welcome to the Women's Caucus!
